The U.S. Department of Justice requested that trial proceedings to block the American Airlines-US Airways merger begin on March 3, 2014,

well after the airlines' Nov. 12 proposed date. DOJ's prior request to start the trial on Feb. 10, 2014, posed a schedule conflict for the judge overseeing the case. Claiming the carriers are attempting to "rush this matter," DOJ in a filing Tuesday with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia pushed back at the carrier's assertions that DOJ's prior trial schedule was "unprecedentedly slow."
