Qantas announced it would reduce 1,000 positions within the next 12 months
as part of a A$2 billion (US$1.8 billion) cost-savings program the airline will pursue during the next three years. Qantas warned that it likely would post "an underlying loss before tax in the range of $250 million to $300 million" for the six months ending Dec. 31.
