Lufthansa and its Germanwings subsidiary canceled "approximately 3,800 flights" scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,
citing a planned pilot strike. Lufthansa indicated about 425,000 passengers would be affected. The German airline noted it would alert impacted passengers who have registered contact information with the carrier, rebook affected passengers with other airlines and "provide train tickets on domestic routes in cooperation with German Railways" where applicable. The strike does not impact Lufthansa's Swiss, Austrian and Brussels Airlines subsidiaries. "Where possible, these companies will use larger planes on routes from and to Germany in order to bring as many rebooked Lufthansa passengers as possible to their destinations," according to Lufthansa.
