While John Caldwell presents some excellent arguments at the 35,000-foot level
(BTNonline, July 27), he misses some key points where the rubber meets the road.
Competition is the core of capitalism—may the best win! The National Business Travel Association is in a better financial position because of the choices they have made, the culture they have created, the services they offer their members, their leadership and the quality of their educational programs. They have been a leader in the industry and taken definitive action when other organizations wavered. It's a mark of their commitment to their members, continuing education and dedication to the execution of their objectives.
John states that NBTA operates with approximately 37 full-time employees as if that is an exorbitant amount. I am amazed at the vast amount of work they accomplish, the services they supply and the quality of their shows and educational programs with a staff of only 37.
In all likelihood, discussion will be moot and the Association of Corporate Travel Executives and NBTA will likely form an alliance, not because of arguments or mandates for singularity, but because free markets and competent leaders are working to serve members in a changing environment.
