CWT Study Analyzes Global Consolidation Savings
Carlson Wagonlit Travel CEO Hubert Joly today announced the latest research conducted by the CWT Travel Management Institute, a study attempting to quantify the impact of multinational travel management consolidation.
Although the sample size, cited as "more than 120 companies," was small, the findings remained consistent with conventional wisdom within the industry that consolidation accounts for an average of 15 percent to 25 percent savings. The institute's research concluded that companies that consolidate globally achieve 20 percent average savings, with 12 percent coming from travel policy and processes, 7 percent from sourcing and 1 percent from booking and fulfillment.
Drilling down further in the area of sourcing consolidation, the institute found that global consolidation on average yields savings of 7.5 percent in airline spending, 6.5 percent in hotel spending and 4.5 percent in car rental spending.
