Avis Budget Group reported a $28 million net loss for the June quarter,
compared
with a $79 million profit for the prior-year period. The company
attributed the loss to "debt-extinguishment expenses, transaction-related
charges and restructuring costs." Total revenue grew 7 percent year over
year, "primarily due to the acquisition of Zipcar and a 3 percent increase
in rental days." In the North American rental car segment, rental days
grew 2 percent, with pricing up 1 percent year over year. The rental car firm's
4 percent increase in North America leisure pricing was offset by a slight
decline in commercial pricing.
