Amtrak ridership for the 12 months ending Sept. 30 grew 1 percent year over year to 31.6 million,
according to the rail operator. Total revenue for Amtrak's fiscal year grew 4 percent to $2.1 billion from the prior-year period. Revenues derived from Northeast Corridor operations, which includes key business travel markets between Washington D.C. and Boston, grew 5 percent to $1.1 billion, though overall ridership declined by 0.2 percent. The corridor's Acela Express service saw a 1.5 percent ridership decline, as Northeast Regional ridership grew 0.4 percent. The latter set a new ridership record after "a strong ridership rebound" following Hurricane Sandy.
