Alaska Airlines beginning April 21 will enable passengers on select routes to print checked-luggage tags prior to airport arrival,
the carrier announced. The new option will debut on flights between Seattle and San Diego, Anchorage and Juneau, with plans to expand to other airports this summer. During online check-in, the airline will give the option to eligible customers to print a checked-bag tag, which they can then place in a holder that affixes to their luggage. Tag holders are available by mail or at the airport. Upon airport arrival, customers can drop bags at Self-Tag Express lanes. The airline claims to be "the first in the world to allow customers to check in and print boarding passes online," and last year launched at some select airport kiosks self-service tag printing.
