Emburse recently has announced partnerships with several travel management companies and other key suppliers in the travel supply chain that the company said supports its "open and connected" approach to the travel and expense ecosystem.
"Travel is full of partnerships, and we have commercial partnerships, technology partnerships, et cetera—we always have," Emburse CEO Marne Martin said. "With the work we've been doing in the industry to really drive for technology and data … all of that hard work is really getting represented in the fact that we're now able to announce more partnerships with real integration and integrated use cases."
BCD Travel and Emburse have expanded their partnership to provide a more integrated travel and expense management offering to clients, the companies announced on Monday. The partnership combines BCD’s TripSource platform, which recently added more AI functionality and introduced a Model Context Protocol server, with Emburse’s AI-powered capabilities to automate the flow of travel and expense data "from booking through reimbursement with embedded policy controls," the companies said.
The "deeper integration" will bring travel booking, expense creation and reconciliation into a single workflow, reducing manual administration for travelers while providing travel managers and finance teams with “real-time” data insights, the companies said.
"By integrating booking, access to data, and policy controls more deeply with Emburse, we are helping travelers and finance teams simplify the traveler experience while improving compliance and operational efficiency," Mike Janssen, global chief commercial officer at BCD, said in a statement.
Emburse also announced a partnership with Direct Travel to provide continuous flow of travel, financial and operational data between Emburse and Direct Travel's Spotnana-based Avenir platform. The companies said that will provide a better data foundation for AI to work across the platforms, with travel data from Avenir helping AI to automate expense reporting while spending data from Emburse can help inform policy recommendations and travel guidance from Direct Travel.
"By bringing together Avenir, powered by Spotnana, and Emburse Expense Intelligence, we’re creating a shared intelligence layer that connects travel and finance in real-time," according to Emburse chief revenue officer Michele Shepard. "With data flowing between both platforms and AI working across them, organizations can guide travelers toward better decisions, reduce friction and create more value at every stage of a business trip."
Additional TMC partnership announced include Flight Centre Travel Group, with expanded integrations globally to connect bookings directly into Emburse, according to the group's VP of product management and fintech Ama Amsellem. Emburse also announced that World Travel, Inc., has partnered for receipt integration and intelligent expense workflows.
Travel platform TempoTrip is among Emburse's recent partnership additions, with an integration that helps "our mutual customers simplify meetings, events, crew and project travel while connecting booking, expense and financial workflows into a more seamless experience," TempoTrip CEO Maurita Baker said in a statement.
Cvent, meanwhile, announced an integration with Emburse for travel analytics data into Cvent Travel. Having that data in Cvent's hotel sourcing workflow will let users have more informed hotel negotiations and be better able to see their travel program performance, according to the companies.
On the payment side, Emburse announced a partnership with Mastercard to embed the network's virtual cards directly into Emburse, allowing them to "streamline payments, automate expense reporting through real-time transaction data and strengthen compliance," Mary Beth Livengood, Mastercard EVP of corporate solutions in North America, said in a statement. "Through Mastercard's broad ecosystem, customers also gain the flexibility to access virtual card programs from their preferred banking providers, delivering greater choice and efficiency across the travel and expense experience."
Martin said Emburse plans to continue growing such partnerships even as it also continues enhancing its own capabilities, such as virtual cards and travel booking, that are also offered by those partners.
"We're proving that you can drive deep and rich, integrated experiences by not being a closed ecosystem," Martin said. "[Clients] can still choose their TMC, and we will enrich the experience of the TMC—and buffer for what the TMC might not be good at."
