BCD Travel's Advito consulting division has partnered with French climate-tech startup Estuaire to add non-CO2 data to its Gate4 emissions methodology.
The move will incorporate Estuaire's modeling into Advito's Gate4 methodology to calculate the non-CO2 impacts of air travel, such as flight contrails, based on flight path, altitude and atmospheric conditions, the companies said.
"The result is a more granular understanding of aviation's climate footprint and clearer insight into where mitigation efforts can have the greatest impact," the companies added in a statement.
"Non-CO2 effects represent one of the most complex and least understood aspects of aviation's climate impact," said Julien Etchanchu, senior director of sustainability consulting at Advito. "By enhancing Gate4, we are moving beyond broad assumptions to give our clients a more accurate and actionable view of their air travel greenhouse gas emissions."
Etchanchu said the enhanced Gate4 calculation is "a premium capability." It will be offered to clients as add-on to the existing Gate4 methodology and integrated into Advito's reporting dashboard.
Estuaire said its modeling can calculate the non-CO2 impact of specific flights based on "real-world" atmospheric conditions and can identify the routes and conditions that contribute most to global warming.
