IHG Hotels & Resorts will add five properties in India in gateway cities and airport-led destinations, the company announced Thursday.
The planned properties, comprising nearly 1,500 rooms total, include a Kimpton hotel in Jaipur, and Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels across Navi Mumbai on India's western coast, Mangaluru on the southwest coast and Thiruvananthapuram in the south near the Arabian sea.
IHG signed an agreement with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd., a private airport operator in India, to develop and manage the properties. The Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels will open in Adani's planned mixed-use developments around its airports. The hotel in Jaipur will mark the first Kimpton-branded property in India.
The deal is part of an ongoing push by IHG to expand its footprint in India, where it has 52 hotels currently operating and a pipeline of 98 hotels set to open within the next three to five years, according to IHG.
Other hotel companies, including Hilton Worldwide and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, are putting forth similar efforts to expand in India as economic growth and expanding infrastructure create new opportunities for hoteliers to capture corporate and leisure guests in the country.
