American Express Global Business Travel through an expanded partnership with Chooose will enhance its reporting capability for hotel emissions, the travel management company announced Monday at the Global Business Travel Association annual convention in Denver.
Effective in the third quarter of 2025, Amex GBT clients will have access to more precise hotel emissions data reporting provided through Chooose. The data isn't available at the time of booking, Amex GBT VP of global sustainability Nora Lovell Marchant told BTN, but is available for post-event reporting.
Chooose feeds to Amex GBT hotel emissions data from hotel sustainability consulting consortium Greenview, Lovell Marchant said, which collected data from the Cornell University Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking Index, which anonymizes data sourced from thousands of hotels worldwide, based on the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative, after hotels submit data to non-governmental organizations.
Emissions are reported based on factors like hotel location and service tier, among others, but are not provided to the property level, she said.
"There's consensus around this carbon calculation methodology framework, which is very hard to do," she said.
Amex GBT initially allied with Chooose to offer airline emissions information at the point of booking.
