U.S. hotel room supply in 2012 grew by 0.5 percent year over year,
according to the STR/McGraw Hill Construction Dodge Pipeline Report. In all, 407 properties with 43,865 rooms opened in the United States last year, and more than 60 percent of those rooms were in the upper midscale and upscale tiers. Only nine upper upscale properties and one luxury property opened in the United States. The report projects that in 2013, about twice as many properties and rooms will open in the United States as debuted in 2012.
