The average third-quarter rate at InterContinental Hotels Group properties rose by 2.4 percent year over year,
including increases of 3.2 percent in the Americas, 2 percent in Asia/Pacific and 2.8 percent across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Worldwide occupancy increased by 2.4 percentage points and was up in each region. During the quarter, IHG opened nearly 13,000 new rooms—about 8,000 of which were in the Americas—and removed more than 3,000 rooms from its system. The company's third-quarter operating profit was $153 million, up from $115 million in the third quarter of 2010.
