North American hotel room nights booked through global distribution systems during the first quarter increased 2.9 percent year over year,
according to TravelClick's North American Distribution Review. The average daily rate on those bookings increased 3.3 percent year over year, and ADR across all transient channels—including brand websites, online travel agencies, phone reservations and hotel direct bookings—was up by the same rate, TravelClick reported. GDS bookings accounted for slightly more than a fifth of transient rooms sold during the quarter.
