Average daily rates across Marriott International's North America system increased by 4.9 percent year over year during the third quarter
and by 3.8 percent in the rest of the world. Global occupancy during the quarter was 74.6 percent, up about a percentage point from the prior year. Marriott president and CEO Arne Sorenson noted that the company is particularly bullish about North America hotel performance and is targeting 2013 corporate room rate increases in the high-single-digit percentages. Marriott's net income for the quarter was $390 million, up 23 percent from adjusted 2011 levels.
