Global airline capacity dipped 2 percent week over week to about 31 million seats, although capacity was up in eight of the 10 largest regional markets, according to OAG.
The largest areas of growth this week were the lower South America and Southwest Pacific regions. Capacity in South Asia, however, was down 40 percent compared with the prior week, though capacity remains a third higher than where it was two weeks ago, OAG reported.
Overall, global capacity stands at about 28 percent of what it was this time last year. China currently accounts for more than a third of total global air capacity, with 98 percent of those seats on domestic routes.
