Japan Airlines will restore a portion of its domestic network in the second half of this month as the Japanese government lifts domestic travel restrictions on June 19, the carrier announced.
Between June 15 and June 30, JAL plans to operate slightly under half of its usual domestic network, cutting an average of 461 flights per day. By comparison, the carrier this week is operating less than 30 percent of its domestic network, cutting an average of 613 flights per day.
International service, meanwhile, will remain greatly reduced in July, though it will "operate scheduled flights to select international destinations in the United States, Europe, and Asia to help support customers planning to return to Japan and for those planning to travel for business and personal reasons," according to JAL.
Service to the Americas will be reduced 85 percent, to Europe 79 percent and to Southeast Asia 93 percent. East Asia service will be reduced 96 percent, with most remaining service going to Hong Kong and Taiwan. Service will remain suspended to Oceania, Hawaii and Guam.
JAL also will continue to operate some international and domestic routes as cargo-only, the carrier said.
