Brussels Airlines has pushed back its planned restart of long-haul service but still plans to grow overall capacity during the next several months.
The carrier this month had planned to begin restarting long-haul service to New York, Montreal and many of its destinations in Africa, but it now has delayed that relaunch to August due to ongoing travel restrictions. The European Union this week extended a ban on visitors from several countries, including the United States, with high Covid-19 infection rates.
Brussels also announced that it will resume service to seven medium-haul destinations in September and October, bringing its network to about 45 percent of its normal schedule. Those include Basel, Switzerland; Birmingham, U.K.; Bologna, Italy; Edinburgh; Gothenburg, Sweden; Milan; and Warsaw. In addition, the carrier plans to resume service to Freetown, Sierra Leone, in August, in addition to its other planned long-haul destinations.
