AirPlus International today announced a partnership with Salt Lake City-based Wright Express Financial Services Corp. to provide a new corporate MasterCard product, replacing its GE Money-issued MasterCard product.
The move follows American Express's recent acquisition of GE's corporate card unit
(BTNonline, March 27).
The card combines AirPlus company accounts, which is lodged with the Universal Air Travel Plan network for pre-trip airline and rail expenses, with MasterCard's network for other expenses. Features include flexible billing and liability options, an improved insurance offering and a user-friendly online portal, according to AirPlus.
So far, a handful of pilot customers have used the card, and now AirPlus is releasing it to the broader market. "We've received high praise from the pilot customer accounts we've implemented over the past few months," AirPlus president Richard Crum said in a statement.
AirPlus first began issuing walking plastic cards in the United States in 2004 through an agreement with GE as MasterCard issuer
(BTNonline, July 19, 2004).
