British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca increased its 2025 U.S.-booked air volume year over year, according to a BTN estimate.
The carbon dioxide equivalent emissions generated by AstraZeneca's business travel in 2025 increased about 4 percent year over year to about 207,800 metric tons. The company in recent years has aggressively worked to limit business travel emissions introducing a companywide cap and encouraging travelers especially in Europe to choose rail over air travel for short-haul trips. The company has reduced its business travel emissions by nearly half from 2019 levels.
About 42 percent of AstraZeneca's 2025 business travel supplier spending was on suppliers with science-based targets, short of a goal of 50 percent. The company has a goal to reduce Scope 3 emissions, which include those generated by business travel, by 2030 to half 2019 levels. Despite the decrease in business travel emissions, overall Scope 3 emissions in 2025 were 24 percent higher than 2019 levels.
AstraZeneca's 2025 revenue increased about 9 percent year over year to $58.7 billion, and at the end of 2025 it employed about 96,100 people, up 2 percent from 2024.
The company in 2025 announced it planned to invest $50 billion in U.S. manufacturing and R&D facilities through 2030, including new construction or expansion in California, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Texas and Virginia.
