BTN estimates that privately held consulting giant mckinsey &
Co.’s U.S.-booked air travel rose more than 10 percent in 2018. The company has
about $10 billion in annual sales, according to the Financial Times, and has
about 30,000 employees, up about 2,000 from one year earlier. Mckinsey accounted
for 787,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions in 2018, about
83 percent of which was generated by employee air travel. A portion of the
remainder was generated by hotel accommodations. Mckinsey on the whole had
780,000 metric tons of such emissions in 2017. While the company’s consultants
are among the most frequent of flyers, mckinsey nevertheless is exploring ways
of reducing travel, including adding videoconferencing capabilities and other
remote collaboration options.
