Cardinal Communications' RegWeb attendee management tool, which in August inadvertently left exposed 277 credit card numbers, was selected last month by Chicago-based McCord Group Travel Services to provide online registration capabilities. In published reports, Cardinal officials said the security breach, which affected leisure travelers booking hotel rooms through 877Chicago.com, was a result of an internal error. It is unknown whether the exposed credit card information was fraudulently used. Cardinal officials said the problem has been corrected. McCord, which maintained its relationship with Cardinal after news of the breach surfaced, will license RegWeb's tools to "create customized registration Web sites for our clients within 48 hours," said Julie Carroll, McCord GTS national director of meeting and incentive sales.
