US Airways launched in 21 cities an option for passengers to pay for "priority check-in, security lanes and boarding,"
the carrier
announced. Starting at $10 per passenger per way, PreferredAccess now is
available at the carrier's key airports in Charlotte, Philadelphia, Phoenix and
Washington, D.C., in addition to Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles and New
York LaGuardia. Elite frequent flyers will continue to receive such priority
benefits for free. "The airline will expand dual-lane boarding to an
additional 39 cities by the end of summer 2012," according to the carrier.
US Airways initially is selling the new option to passengers who check in
online, with plans to expand sales to airport kiosks later this year, US
Airways senior vice president of marketing and planning Andrew Nocella in March
told The Beat.
