JetBlue Airways by the end of the month will offer high-speed satellite Wi-Fi on five aircraft, and expects to equip by the end of 2014 more than 140 aircraft.

The airline claimed the "next-generation" system, powered by its LiveTV subsidiary and satellite provider ViaSat, is eight times faster than "older, slower inflight connections offered on other U.S. airlines." JetBlue initially plans to provide passengers with "free basic web browsing on board" and also offer a premium plan for "$9 per hour for applications like streaming movies or large downloads."
