The Hertz 24/7 self-service program covers hourly, daily, weekly or monthly rentals that can be requested anytime through the Hertz website or mobile app. Once a customer enrolls in the program, vehicle rentals can be unlocked with a key fob swiped on a windshield reader. Keys already are inside vehicles. According to the company, 35,000 vehicles currently are equipped for such rentals and available at 1,800 "neighborhood and airport locations" across the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and Australia. Hertz said it intends to offer by 2016 about 500,000 vehicles in this manner. Hertz
CEO Mark Frissora late last year told BTN that the 24/7 program is one of several technology initiatives planned for 2013.
