Domestic U.S. airline passenger yield in October declined by 12.5 percent
year over year to 13.69 cents per mile, the smallest monthly decline since April, according to the Air Transport Association. Defined as the "average price someone pays to fly one mile excluding government taxes and fees," domestic yield has now declined for 12 consecutive months. Total passenger revenue in October dropped 15 percent year over year as 3 percent fewer passengers traveled on U.S. carriers, ATA noted. "Economic conditions suggest that pressure to generate revenue will remain intense for the foreseeable future," according to ATA CEO James May.
