Canada's WestJet this week claimed to be the first North American airline to offer a completely paperless airport boarding option
. Currently available to passengers traveling from Victoria, British Columbia--and planned for additional Canadian airports "in the coming weeks"--the service stems from the carrier's Web check-in option and emails an electronic boarding pass to Web-enabled cell phones or other wireless devices. Passengers then show the displayed boarding pass on their device when proceeding through airport security checkpoints and when boarding flights.
