Strong growth on flights within Europe and across the North Atlantic raised international air traffic 5.4 percent year over year in August,
as Asia demonstrated weakness, according to the International Air Transport Association. Traffic within Europe, including connecting flights on longer-haul routes, constituted 40 percent of international traffic and grew 6.9 percent year over year. Traffic across the North Atlantic rose 6.4 percent. If volume continues to grow at this pace and travel within Europe and across the North Atlantic holds through the end of the year, 2015 international air traffic could come in as much as 5 percent higher than in 2014.
