Star Alliance named United Airlines senior vice president of alliances Mark Schwab its new chief executive.

At Star's central organization in Germany, he replaces Jaan Albrecht as the alliance's leader, tasked with coordinating projects and activities among 28 partner airlines. Albrecht recently became CEO of Austrian Airlines. Schwab's appointment was announced at Star's event this week in Ethiopia, where Ethiopia Airlines officially joined the alliance.
