Finnair has launched a program that allows corporate customers to monitor emissions reductions via their sustainable aviation fuel purchases, the carrier announced Monday.
Dubbed Finnair for Business SAF, the program enables companies to view actual flight emissions of their business trips and to receive an audited SAF certificate for their investments in SAF from a verified third party, according to the carrier.
The emission reduction related to SAF is allocated according to a "book-and-claim" model, making it possible to reduce emissions from flying without the physical delivery of fuel to the customer's own flight. So far, eight Finnair cargo and corporate customers have agreed to support the use of SAF, according to the airline.
Finnair last fall also launched the ability for consumers to contribute a small amount toward the purchase of SAF when buying their tickets. About 31,000 customers have participated in that program, according to the carrier.
