While established players Uber and Lyft continued to dominate the corporate ridehailing market in 2018, regional services' share of business expense receipts saw "tremendous growth" during the year, Expensify's latest Spend Trends report has revealed.
Uber and Lyft accounted for 93 percent of all expensed ridehailing rides during the year, according to Expensify. To break that down, Uber was responsible for 75.9 percent of receipts submitted by the expense provider's corporate clients and Lyft for 17.1 percent. But smaller players are making significant gains outside the U.S., led by Southeast Asian provider Grab and India ridehailing specialist Ola. Taxify, Gett and Mytaxi also saw "major growth" in the U.K. and Europe, Expensify said.
Food delivery services also were on the rise during 2018, as the number of expensed meals delivered by the top 10 such services increased by an average of 150 percent between the fourth quarters of 2017 and 2018. Caviar was the market leader in the segment, followed by DoorDash and Grubhub, Expensify said.
Meanwhile, since Expensify's recent integration with TripActions, the number of receipts for bookings made through that travel management company has increased sixfold, according to the report.
