Amtrak has completed a Wi-Fi upgrade on Acela
Express trains, which will increase connection speeds six-fold, according to
the rail service provider. The new service replaces technology first installed
in 2010. Amtrak is still upgrading Wi-Fi on its Northeast Corridor fleet and is
building a trackside wireless network to reduce reliance on cellular networks.
That trackside network, which is dependent on funding from Congress, could
extend from Boston to Washington, D.C., according to Amtrak.
