There were no
jet passenger airline accidents worldwide in 2017, according to data released
by the Aviation Safety Network, a tracking service from the nonprofit Flight
Safety Foundation. Ten commercial plane accidents resulted in 44 occupant deaths,
making 2017 the safest year in commercial aviation history, according to ASN. Five
were cargo flights, and five were non-jet passenger flights. "Since 1997, the average number of
airliner accidents has shown a steady and persistent decline," said ASN
president Harro Ranter.
