WestJet is adding at least nine new routes for its summer season, the carrier announced Tuesday.
The carrier from Toronto Pearson International Airport will add three new international destinations: Medellin, Colombia, beginning April 28; Cardiff, Wales, starting May 22; and Ponta Delgada in the Portuguese Azores as of June 12.
WestJet also will launch summer service to Reykjavik, Iceland, from two Canadian cities. Flights from Edmonton are scheduled to begin June 26, while flights from Winnipeg are to start June 27. Each route will operate once weekly with Boeing 737 Max aircraft.
In addition, WestJet will introduce four new destinations from Halifax. Service to Lisbon, Portugal, is scheduled to begin May 1, flights to Madrid, Spain, will start May 15, and flights to Copenhagen will begin May 28. Each of the three European routes will operate four times weekly.
The carrier also is adding service between Halifax and Detroit, from May 18, operating seven times weekly. The expansion to Detroit "builds on [WestJet's] successful partnership with Delta Air Lines," according to the carrier. Delta last month acquired a 15 percent stake in WestJet.
