The average airfare paid in the U.S. declined 2.7 percent from
March to $267.48 in April, the largest decline in more than four years,
according to the Department of Labor's Consumer Price Index. The drop ended
three consecutive months of month-over-month increases. April's average airfare
represented a 6.9 percent year over year fall in the index, which largely
measures discounted economy fares and specifically excludes flights for
business travel.
