United Airlines has launched a map search feature for its flights, in which travelers can see available airports and fares from their home airport on a world map.
The tool, which uses technology from Google Flight Search Enterprise, has a filter feature for locations. While the filters currently are focused on leisure travel—paring down to locations close to national parks, beaches or skiing areas, for example—United can add and change filters as needed, so there could be eventual business-travel-focused filters based on "interest and feedback on the tool," according to a United spokesperson.
Current filters also could have corporate uses, such as a planner needing certain specifications for a retreat location, he said.
