United Airlines dropped a plan to gain slots at Newark Liberty International Airport from Delta Air Lines, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Delta would have picked up United's slots at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City under the plan, which the DOJ challenged in November due to antitrust concerns. According to the DOJ, the plan would have increased United's share of Newark slots from 73 percent to 75 percent. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's April 1 decision to lift a cap on scheduled airline operations at Newark will enable additional competition at the airport, according to DOJ.
