United Airlines has launched international remote baggage screening for customers connecting in San Francisco on United's service from Sydney, Australia, the carrier announced Monday. The move is in partnership with a U.S. Customs and Borders Protection initiative.
With the new service, connecting customers in San Francisco can skip the step of collecting their bags and rescreening them. Instead, CBP and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration will screen the checked bags once the flight arrives and load them onto the connecting flights, according to United, which projects the move will save customers up to 45 minutes during their connections.
