U.S. airlines' canceled domestic flights and
mishandled baggage reports were the lowest they've been in decades in 2016,
according to the Department of Transportation's Air Travel Consumer Report.
Reporting carriers canceled 1.17 percent of domestic flights in 2016, the
lowest rate in 22 years, and mishandled baggage hit an all-time recorded low of
2.7 reports per 1,000 passengers. In 2015, the cancellation rate was 1.5
percent, and the mishandled baggage rate was 3.13 per 1,000 passengers. Airlines'
rate of bumping passengers off flights, which the DOT has tracked since 1995,
also hit a record low of 0.62 per 10,000 passengers in 2016.
