Qatar Airways announced it has acquired 9.6
percent, or about 378 million, of Cathay Pacific's shares. It bought them from
Hong Kong's Kingboard Chemical Holdings for HK$5.16 billion (US$661 million),
making Qatar the carrier's third-largest shareholder behind Air China and Swire
Pacific, according to Reuters. Qatar already has a 20 percent stake in
International Airlines Group and a 10 percent stake in Latam Airlines Group,
though it scuttled
plans this year to buy a 10 percent stake in American Airlines.
