JetBlue this week began selling a new basic economy fare,
Blue Basic. The fare, an update to tiers
launched in 2015, allows no changes, including same-day changes, or
cancellations—only ancillaries will be refunded after a cancellation—and
charges a fee for seat selection more than 24 hours before departure. Those who
purchase the fare still can have a carry-on bag, but they will be last to
board. In addition, the fare earns travelers only one base TrueBlue point per
dollar spent, compared with three for other fare types. Mosaic members who
purchase Blue Basic have the same restrictions related to changes,
cancellations and seat selection and cannot redeem points for Even More Space
seating, but they still get early boarding, free inflight alcoholic drinks and
the Mosaic bonus of three points per dollar spent on top of the points earned
with the fare type.
