The dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies for international and domestic flights rose 2.7 percent year over year in March to $9.1 billion, according to Airlines Reporting Corp. A 7.1 percent rise in international passenger trips accounted for the increase, as U.S. domestic trips and fares flagged. U.S. domestic trips fell by 3.1 percent, and the average domestic round-trip fare fell 1 percent year over year to $495. Across both domestic and international flights, sales of electronic miscellaneous documents, which represent ancillary purchases like upgraded seats and checked luggage, decreased 18.9 percent to $7.5 million on a 19 percent fall in EMD transactions.
