United Continental Holdings has named former FAA
administrator Jane Garvey as nonexecutive chair. Besides leading the FAA during
the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Garvey also is North America chair of
development and investment firm Meridiam and served on U.S. President Barack
Obama's transition team in 2009. Garvey, who has sat on United's board since
2009, replaces outgoing chairman Robert Milton. United CEO Oscar Munoz was
slated to become chair this year, but the board reversed that plan last year
after the forcible removal of a passenger from a United flight.
