The European Commission has cleared all
certified airlines in Benin in West Africa and Mozambique in South Africa as
meeting safety standards required to operate in the European Union. The commission
also added four carriers to the banned list, citing "unaddressed safety
deficiencies": Nigeria's Med-View, Ukraine's Aviation Company Urga, Air
Zimbabwe and, from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Mustique Airways. The EU bans
181 airlines: 174 in 16 countries that lack sufficient aviation safety
oversight and seven with which the commission has safety concerns.
