The number of February flights operated by U.S. carriers remained fairly even with February 2024, but cancellations increased, according to the latest U.S. Department of Transportation Air Travel Consumer Report.
In February, U.S. carriers operated about 551,000 flights, up 0.3 percent year over year but down from the 580,300 reported in January 2025. The rate of scheduled flights canceled was 1.5 percent, up from the 0.6 percent canceled in February 2024, but down from the 3.1 percent canceled in January this year.
The carriers in February 2025 with the lowest rates of canceled flights include Hawaiian Airlines (0.3 percent), Southwest Airlines (0.6 percent) and Delta Air Lines Network (0.8 percent). Networks include branded codeshare partners.
Carriers in February with the highest rates of canceled flights include American Airlines Network (2.9 percent), JetBlue (2.6 percent) and Alaska Airlines Network (2.3 percent).
U.S. airlines in February handled 34.1 million bags and posted a mishandled baggage rate of 0.53 percent, which was lower than the 0.66 percent reported a month prior, but higher than the 0.48 percent reported in February 2024.
DOT in February received about 5,150 submissions—complaints, inquiries and opinions—which was up from 4,670 reported a year prior, but down from 7,600 received in January 2025. U.S. airlines accounted for 69 percent of total February submissions, followed by foreign airlines at 28 percent and travel agents at more than 2 percent. Submissions about the 10 largest reporting U.S. carriers and their branded networks increased 21 percent year over year to about 3,410.
