The U.S. House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee has introduced a five-year FAA reauthorization bill that does not include decoupling air traffic control from the administration. A decoupling proposal, though backed by President Donald Trump and a majority of the committee, also was dropped from reauthorization granted last year due to a lack of support in the U.S. Senate. Committee chair Bill Shuster, the chief proponent of that proposal, which would have put ATC under the control of a nonprofit corporation governed by a board that would include airline representatives, also has announced he will not seek reelection this year.
