American Airlines next year will boost its service to three
South American cities from Miami and will add new direct service between Boston
and London Heathrow. On April 7, American will increase its service between Miami and Lima,
Peru, from two daily flights to three daily flights. In the
winter of next year, American also will add one daily flight on the route between Miami and Santiago, Chile, and the route between Miami and Sao Paulo.
American's Latin America network took a hit last week with
the news that Latam will pull out of the Oneworld alliance and out of a planned
joint business with American to instead establish a joint business with Delta. American VP of network and schedule
planning Vasu Raja said the expanded service shows the carrier will
"continue to grow, compete and thrive in a region of the world where we have
a long history and a bright future."
Daily service between Boston and Heathrow will begin on
March 29; American and joint business partner British Airways
will offer five daily flights between the two airports. BA parent company International Airlines Group also plans to add service between
Boston and Paris Orly on its low-cost subsidiary Level.
In addition, American is extending its summer service on
three transatlantic routes to begin a month early next year. Service between
New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Rome will begin on March
29 instead of May 3. Service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Dublin will begin on
May 7 instead of June 6. Service between Chicago O'Hare and Barcelona will
begin on April 6 instead of May 3.
All new service is pending government approval.
