American Airlines next year will add an "elite rewards" option for Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum AAdvantage members, the carrier announced.
In 2021, Platinum Pro members will be given the choice of one reward from a list of options including 20,000 AAdvantage bonus miles, carbon emissions offsetting, a $200 donation to a choice of partner charities, six one-day passes to an Admirals Club or a $200 travel voucher. Executive Platinum members will get two choices from a similar list with some enhanced options—the AAdvantage bonus miles option is increased to 25,000, for example—and a few items not on the Platinum Pro list, such as products from consumer electronics company Bang & Olufsen.
Early next year, American also will elevate Platinum Pro members to Emerald status within the Oneworld alliance. Currently, they receive Sapphire status with Oneworld.
American Airlines in October announced that requirements to reach elite status levels in 2021 for 2022 would be lower than pre-pandemic levels.
