American Airlines has filed a lawsuit to get out
of its contract with inflight Internet provider Gogo. The suit, filed in the
323rd District Court in Tarrant County, Texas, hinges on a contract clause that
allows American to change providers if a Gogo competitor offers a substantially
better product.
The Dallas Morning News
reports that American wants to sign on with satellite-based provider ViaSat,
which also serves United Airlines, JetBlue and Virgin America. Gogo, meanwhile,
plans to submit a competing proposal to install its own satellite-based system,
2Ku, on American's fleet, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission filing.
Delta
Air Lines is upgrading its aircraft to that system this year.
